Kings Of Leon Concert In Cary, NC – 4/29/09
First off, let me say that this concert was great. I was so happy to see a band that I have been listneing to for a while see such a big and passionate fan base develop. Although this band changes their appearance every time I see them, they rock out more as the night goes on. I loved how they balanced out all of the songs from all four of their albums. It was great to see them open with “Crawl” off of their most recent album “Only By The Night”. I was thrilled when they played “My Party” off of their 2007 album “Because Of The Times”. The thing about this concert was that it was fun, entertaining and you could really tell apart the fans from the people who were just kind of there. The venue was a great outdoor ampitheatre and fellow Digital Media Convergence student Jay Light and I were very close to the front, so with a stellar set list, great performance, beautiful weather, great venue, what went wrong?
THE CROWD! Literally, this can make or break a concert, and it almost broke this one if the music wasn’t so awesome. There was this one guy, definietely 42 years old, he was big and intimidating looking, wearing sunglasses at night, and was in the front and literally, All he did was STAND THERE. for two whole hours, did not make one move or let anybody through. It was actually kind of disrespectful to the band when I think about because these four young musicians are having such a great time playing their FIRST SHOW EVER in the State of North Carolina and I feel this one guy made it feel unwelcoming for them. This guy was seriously yelling at anyone dancing around him, so by the encore set, all of us kids were dancing around him and he had to deal with it. We paid the exact same money as him to come to this concert and stand here and I understand he has every right to stand there, but seriously, the crowd and atmosphere that you’re in, its not an “ENYA” concert, its a “Kings Of Leon” ROCK SHOW! Which leads me to…
RULE #1 of a rock concert is that if you are not going to dance, jump up and down, sing lyrics to songs, shake you head or dance with the crowd and try to get to the front, its simple, DO NOT GO AND RUIN EVERYONE ELSE EXPEREINCE!
Now that my rant is done, hopefully this review was helpful. If you are reading this today and live in North Carolina and want to see Kings Of Leon, They are playing at the Bojangles Colliseum tomorrow inĀ Charlotte, NC, so definetely consider going, because they are great live!
Cheers.
